Sterling expenditure other than 80 per centum

of salaries has on the advice of the Treasurer after consultation

with the Chief Manager of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation been calculated at 18. 10d. to the dollar.

Additions to the establishment of the Colony which have been included in the Estimates in anticipation of your

approval are as follows:-

SECRETARIAT FOR CHINESE AFFAIRS:-

Detective Allowance to 1 Sergeant, X300. Special Allowance to 1 Sergeant, $240.

1 Third Grade Interpreter.

Detective Allowance to 1 Lance-Sergeant, $240.

Special Allowance to 1 Lance-Sergeant, $180.

AUDIT DEPARTMENT:-

1 Fifth Grade Clerk.

1 Messenger at 8100.

TREASURY:-

A. Treasurer's Office.

1 Fifth Grade Collector of Village Rates

(promoted from Sixth Grade).

1 Chinese Detective at $210 with Detective

Allowance of 860.

HARBOUR MASTER'S DEPARTMENT:

A. Harbour Office.

1 Fifth Grade Interpreter at Outstation

(temporarily raised from Sixth Grade).

MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES:-

1 Watchman for Bathing Place, North Point, $180.

1 Fireman for heating apparatus, New Government

Offices, $180.
